Hi guys. I'm trying to submit my toolbar to Firefox Extensions.  But they need some changes to the policy.

Hyip-Status Toolbar 1.0.1.24 - Approval Denied
Your item, Hyip-Status Toolbar 1.0.1.24, has been reviewed by a Mozilla Update editor who took the following action:
Approval Denied

Your item was tested by Trevor Roydhouse using n/a on n/a.
Editor's Comments:
 Claim 1: "does not transmit any information in a manner that can identify a user." - This is not true.

Claim 2: "Unidentifiable statistics are sent to our system" - how unidentifiable is a UNIQUE user id generated by the toolbar, along with the user's IP address? Not very. Also who is "our system"?rn

Claim 3: "The statistics are completely anonymous and do not contain any personal identification " - Not true; see claim 1 above; note also that a unique user id is generated to track the individual user, not just logging of the ip address.

Claim 4: "don't share the specifics with anybody. ," - You do share the specifics with whoeevr owns the server in Israel (Conduit aka Effectivebrand?) in which case, don't say you don't!

Claim  5: "This toolbar is free to download and contains no Keyloggers, Ad-Aware or any Spyware." - unfortunately Symantec's Security Center disagrees with you having classified EffectiveBrand toolbars as "trackware" - as it tracks what you do. Fair enough, but you have to reveal this fact in your privacy policy.

In reworking it bear in mind that you need to specify exactly

WHAT information is being collected ("un!
 identifiable statistics" does not identify exactly what is being collected; what statistics are they?),

HOW that information is being used (do you know what Conduit/EB do with this information?) and identify

WHO is collecting the information (you don't do this).

You may do better by starting from scratch rather than using the "privacy policy" template that Conduit/EB provide. Please fix (or get Conduit/EB to fix) the policy and re-submit. Thanks!

Can I get a change to the privacy policy, please.

I also got denied by Trevor Roydhouse.
No matter what changes I did to my toolbar's privacy policy, every time I submit it to Mozilla Firefox Addons Trevor catches it and denies it.

In the past there was no problem submitting to Mozilla as long as I included the privacy policy. For some reason it seems that Trevor has decided to catch all EffectiveBrand/Conduit toolbars in Firefox Addons and try to block them from being submitted.

I did a small checkup on him and it turns out that he has two toolbars of his own on Mozilla: https://addons.mozilla.org/mozilla/8860/author/
I smell something fishy there with Trevor...  Angry

Anybody else get any denials from him?

Do I have this correct?

You took the *.xpi file that Conduit generated and submitted it to Mozilla to host as an extension?

and, if the above is correct, when you did this (Mr Roydhouse acting on the behalf of Mozilla) it was denied because of security concerns?Huh?

Yikes.  So Conduit stores every search made from the toolbar along with IP and date?

When I think of the AOL data release I get the same feeling here Sad

me, i had the same issue during the last months - every time i tried to upload a new version, this guy was rejecting me with strange "privacy" statements ,i was discussing some of my users about it, and none of them was saying something about privacy issues, and not a word regarding the toolbar is a spyware. i tried to re post a better explanation, then another moderator read it carefully, sent me a little comment, and after i made some clearings he confirmed the new version. then, when a new version came, i used the same privacy statement i was fixing, AND GUESS WHAT? Mr Travor denied it again  Angry now, i have a great community there, with many users, which is waiting for new features and better toolbar but NADA. this Travor is giving me hard time, without a real reason, like he is having a motive there. i do not understand how a respectable organization like mozilla is having such a moderator. shame. Undecided

Some interestint things about the Conduit Toolbar.

First - it is an AWSOME TOOLBAR! I love it. but, because I work at a military institution, they feel uncomfortable with their data being logged/mined.   Specifically, what things the researchers are searching for - because, in the wrong hands this could give someone details as to what type of research is being done (example something like 'space lasers' etc. you know top secret stuff).  So, right now, unless there was a way to be 100.00 % CERTAIN that the data did not

1. get accidentally leaked -
2. get stolen,
3. sold after the company goes bankrupt

If you think back to the AOL data leak, for some people - this could be a problem.

Also, you should try out "Charles Web Debugging Proxy"
http://xk72.com/charles/
It shows every request made by a browser and lets you see what is going on behind the scene when the Conduit is installed and used.

First, when FireFox Opens, it calls home to

* http://www.comduit.com (to get updates etc. to the browser)
AND
* http://users.conduit.com/iis2ebs.asp

When running, EVERY SINGLE CLICK IS LOGGED ALONG WITH THE PARAMATERS
Every single click is sent to http://users.conduit.com/iis2ebs.asp

I would have to imagine that the WEB SERVER has a log file that tells them:

* The toolbar  - based on the "random" ID ( and thus the group associated to it )
* IP of the requester
* Date/Time
* Paramaters (like search terms)

Another wierd thing, I Searched for "Cancer" from Conduit Toolbar via google and charles showed the requests:

=============================================
http://www.google.com
http://users.conduit.com/iis2ebs.asp
http://www.cancer.org/docroot/home/index.asp

The cancer.org showed an Exception: Client closed connection before receiving entire response -- it's like they hit it, and quit it (maybe they made a fake click to cancer.org from google in order to generate more revinue Huh just a guess)

I really do like the Conduit toolbar but really, how can you NOT call it SPYWARE when EVERY SINGLE ACTION YOU DO WITH IT IS LOGGED?

I have no doubt in my mind that Conduit logs every time YOU :
  * open your browser
 * click a button or menu
 * search

 What they do with this data, or happens to it remains to be seen.

I would PAY for a version that did not talk back to Conduit unless the user was checking for an update.

 Cry

Why doesn't somebody from Conduit answer this concern all of us have?  Many libraries are reluctant to put it out there for their users becuase of this.  What country is Conduit actually located in?

Make Money from Your Toolbar

WWW
« Reply #6 on: September 20, 2006, 04:21:52 PM »

Some people are so  Huh

It’s a client/server application. It use the server to get new setting and data, like when you use skype or ICQ...
As a publisher i get only the data of how many active users I have and how many new users. This data is not spying!!!

Cut the bul***   paranoid people should stay out of the web!  Angry you know Google is logging all the search terms ?

And i think this dmf67 = Trevor Roydhouse  i think i know what’s his problem....

he rejected all my submissions one by one and also refuse to update my extension that already got tested and approved by other moderators, results that all of my toolbars users cannot upgrade to a stable version that works better and bug free( now I have more then 400,000 users !!!)

I guess this Trevor person will hear from my lawyer soon, and I don’t care if he is” only a volunteer”.

Now I know exactly what his motivation:

He built his own toolbars (not with conduit platform) https://addons.mozilla.org/mozilla/8860/author/

And maybe.... just maybe conduit toolbars are much better then his own poor toolbars. That’s why he has his own hidden agenda...

Try a proxy monitor like Charles

http://xk72.com/charles/

Try using FireFox for a search without a Conduit toolbar

They try a search, or a button, or a click of a dropdown menu with a Conduit toolbar.

See for yourself what is going on.

I have been denied 3 times by Trevor and I'm getting sick of it. He has threatened to take my toolbar off mozilla unless I fill the so called problems in the privacy policy. I have also resubmitted with the new privacy policy and I will see what happens, I'll get back to you guys...

By definition, W*ndows is trackware, Intern*t Explorer is trackware How dare mozi**a release a browser viersion to be installed on trackware!

s*mantec says EB toolbar is trackware? That does not mean that it is.
I've no doubt that EB is trying to be honest and up front with their privacy policy and disclosure but sometimes things casn get lost in the translation.

Your Toolbar/extension Biggest Enemy.... Angry Angry Angry

this is the person who denied your toolbar/extension from Mozilla:

Trevor Roydhouse

Some Facts:

1. he have his own toolbars on Mozilla add-ons directory!
2. he probably approved his own toolbars/extension in the mozilla directory
3. he checks every day to see if you submit a conduit toolbar/extension and then denied it promptly
(otherwise other editors that will get to them will probably approve it)
4. he got a personal agenda against "easy building" great toolbars/extensions for firefox
5. he will ask you to make some changes to the privacy policy but he will never approve it after the changes
6. he doesn't care that senior modorator at Mozilla already accepted the current privacy policy as is (thats why you can find some conduit toolbars/extension in the directory)

This has NOTHING TO DO with Trevor Roydhouse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The PROBLEM is that EVERY SINGLE CLICK OF THE TOOLBAR GOES THRU A CONDUIT SERVER WHEN IT DOES NOT NEED TO.

MOZILLA EXTENSION HOSTING IS FOR DEVELOPER EXTENSIONS - BUILD BY HAND, NOT GENERATED BY A THIRD PARTY THAT CONTROLS THE EXTENSION.

IF CONDUIT DID NOT HIT THIS SERVER:
http://users.conduit.com/iis2ebs.asp
WITH EVERY CLICK THERE WOULD BE NO PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!
